A quick and affordable way to improve your smile with our cosmetic dentist in Milton Keynes.
Cosmetic bonding is a popular and safe way to dramatically improve the look and/or texture of a tooth that has been damaged or become severely stained.
For many people, a chipped or stained tooth affects their everyday lives in a way others can’t understand. It can make them feel self-conscious and reluctant to smile. It can also make them feel unhappy with their appearance, or even stop them from eating properly.
At Citident Dental Practice, we have some of the most experienced dentists in cosmetic bonding Milton Keynes has to offer. We can advise you at our consultation on the options and processes, giving you all the information required to feel comfortable and confident about the methods we use to create your perfect smile.
How does cosmetic bonding work?
When we offer teeth bonding at our practice in Milton Keynes, we first use a shade guide to take you through the options available. This enables us to pick a colour of composite resin that best matches the rest of your natural teeth.
The resin used in cosmetic bonding is a very strong and stable composite, designed to withstand the forces present in your mouth every day. You may not realise it, but your teeth are put through a lot – and our Milton Keynes dentists can help alleviate your cosmetic dental treatment worries.
Once a shade of resin has been chosen, your dentist will then prepare the surface of your tooth with an abrasive brush, coating it with a liquid that promotes adhesion, before applying bonding resin to the tooth.
The resin looks and feels like a soft, mouldable putty at this stage, and your dentist will shape it to fit and smooth it, before hardening the material with a UV light.
Whether you are choosing to use cosmetic bonding to cover a stained tooth, protect an exposed root or to cover a previous filling, it is not necessary to be placed under an anaesthetic. The process does not hurt and is over in less than an hour. It is a cost-effective and time-saving smile makeover treatment, as it is cheaper and quicker than having dental veneers. Many of our cosmetic bonding Milton Keynes clients who are having just one tooth bonded leave our practice in just over half an hour.
Looking After Your Bonded Teeth
The composite material used in cosmetic bonding is not as strong as tooth enamel – there are not many things that are. To enable your new bonded tooth or teeth to look their best for as long as possible, you may need to amend some of your oral habits.
Biting your nails can chip the resin, as can chewing on ice or even on your pen. Try to be aware of the things you are chewing and make a concerted effort to protect your teeth to ensure they look great for longer.
As with natural teeth, coffee, tea, red wine, cigarette smoke and other substances can stain the resin. To prevent lasting discolouration, you are advised not to eat or drink anything that may stain your new cosmetic bonding for the first 48 hours after placement.
To get the best results, simply treat your bonded tooth or teeth like your natural teeth. Brush them twice daily, and have them professionally cleaned by a dental hygienist often.
